Hooper Beach is a small stretch of beach west of the Fishing Pier in Capitola, California. Hooper’s is known as the dog-friendly beach of Capitola and Aptos, although this is technically part of Capitola Beach and dogs are not allowed during this time. There is parking on Dock Road, leading to the Dock, and along Cliff Avenue, there is a long flight of steps that take you down the cliff. All parking spaces in the area are metered. The beach is named for Harry Hooper, a Capitola Hall of Fame baseball player who won multiple championships with the Red Sox in the early 1900s and served in the community for many years thereafter. While visiting Hooper or Capitola Beach, take time to stroll the Capitola Pier.
